Why Ordinary Girl?

I am a pretty fashion-minded gal. I always have been. I have an inherent interest and appreciation for fashion and my own style comes naturally to me. I have always enjoyed shopping because to me, it is a creative outlet, rather than a necessary means to an end.

Without ever really trying, I manage to be a very informed consumer, when it comes to the fashion industry. Don’t ask me about cars or appliances or gadgets or technology. Whenever my friends or family members are looking for something specific- a dress for a black tie event, an outfit for their bachelorette party, a professional looking winter coat for their new job, a pair of *comfortable* nude pumps they can wear to work and out at night, etc.- I find myself uniquely energized and engaged. Without asking for my help, I’ll start making recommendations based on what I saw recently. I’ll do a quick search on some of my favorite online retailers and send 10+ links to potential options within minutes. I’ll follow-up with pictures when I’m out running errands and see something cute that might work.

I like to think that my friends and family members find this helpful and therefore come to me as a resource. Maybe I’m completely misreading this situation and they find me annoying. But, I’m choosing to see this is a helpful skill of mine that I can share with all of my (fashion) like-minded friends and family members who I just don’t know yet. 🙂

I recognize that the shopping game has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years. There is so much choice now. Not only do we have our favorite brands and department stores, but now we have online department stores which have presented us with scores of new brands that quickly became our favorites.  We now have fashion bloggers and social media influencers who bring us incredible creativity and inspiration in addition to thousands of new brands and retailers that we might have never known about. We have SO many buying options that even seemingly simple purchases are SO complicated. “I need a black strappy sandal” opens up literally thousands of search results- and that’s just what’s online.

Ordinary Girl is meant to be a resource the help everyone navigate through the labyrinth of consumer fashion so that you can make the best buying choices.  When I’m helping my friends and family members, I want them to find the BEST of whatever they are looking for so that they get so much use out of their purchase, so they feel great in whatever it is that they bought. Because doesn’t it feel great when you are OBSESSED with your latest purchase? And in a totally different way, it feels great 2 years later when you still get so much use out of it.

As much variation as there is to fashion, we all need a lot of the same things:

  • A winter coat (bless you if you live in a place where you don’t need one)
  • Black strappy sandals
  • Neutral flats
  • A great tote bag
  • A go-to clutch
  • Jeans
  • Black boots
  • Dresses for work
  • Tops for date night
  • A jean jacket
  • A great spring dress

All I want to do is help you find the BEST one for you.

So that’s what we’ll do here! And as much as I’d like to think of myself as an expert, this is a job for more than one person! I engage my fellow local fashionistas who are actually in the biz: boutique owners, stylists, fashion bloggers, and more, to share their professional opinion and insights with us. Then, I’ll give you a recap of my non-professional but highly engaged, highly educated and highly fashionable (if I do say so myself), opinion.

So when you’re looking for a leather jacket, you can come here and find the BEST of what’s out there without having to scour through the awkward results that Google gives you or find time to go to more than one store to find the right one. We’ve already done the work for you! It’s like a menu of the best options in every category.

I’m here! And I’m arming myself with fashion professionals.
